Have a good trip Ken. I still remember sleeping near the crashing waves
a Porcupine Mts. State Park on our Honeymoon just after our wedding Aug
25, '78. If you are very brave you might try a dip in Lake Superior
just so you can say you did it.

My great grandparents spent every summer (hay fever season) staying at
the Hotel on Mackinaw Is. for years. Wish they had left me some of
their money to spend on OM. The first time I went to the island was
with the summer camp staff of a camp in Grayling. I signed on as camp
photographer and had just purchased my first OM-1. With the money I
made I purchased an OM-1 MD which I still have.

The last time I went to Whitehall was to attend a Corvette Rally. They
raced past the old rendering plant. A woman I worked with while in
college said she never wanted me to date her daughter - so I asked her
to go with me to the rally.

Good memories, if you don't think about shoveling the snow!

| Well it's getting that time again--time to plan our pilgrimige to the
| wonderful land of Michigan to escape from the cares of this world and
spend
| some quality time with family, friends and film.
|
| Last week in September (color peak) we will be vacationing in northern
| Wisconsin (great little lake to camp on), visit the Porcupine
Mountains,
| head up to Copper Harbor, explore waterfalls and drift over to the TQ
falls
| and then go to Mackinaw Island. Mackinaw Island is wonderful in the
fall
| and it is very pleasant without 3 million other visitors running you
down
| on the rental bicycles or runaway horses. We'll be sure to take in a
few
| lighthouses along the way, maybe even pop up to Whitefish Point
(humming
| tunes of Gordon Lightfoot). Finally, we will drift down the west side
of
| Michigan, visit my folks in Whitehall, chat with my best friend that
just
| completed a coast-to-coast bicycle trip and then head back westward to
| watch the corn harvest.
|
| Gotta love new jobs that come with one-week of vacation right out of
the
| chute!
|
|
| I'm getting excited thinking about the clear blue skies, the bold Lake
| Superior (and cold), no flies (why else would you do the UP in the
fall?),
| vivid colors, waterfalls, etc., etc.
