I just had an experience this past fall while sending a box to Frankfurt from
Virginia. I sent a friend a box filled with a lot of junk (a couple of
brownie mixes (he loves them), books, maps, t-shirts for the family, and to
fill up the extra space, I stupidly bought a brownie pan! When I lived in
Germany I had an APO address, so i assumed the rates were always cheap. You
can imagine my surprise when I went to the post office with my large box
(about 11 pounds?) and found that 2-day was $150.00, 1-week (first class) was
$55.00, and slow-boat-from-China (ground) was $33.00. I sent it the slow way
and it took 4 weeks.
I'll be more picky about what gar-bage I send my friends!
