Hi all,

After sending the weeks body prices to this list, I had to take 'her
indoors' to some craft fair out in the wilds of essex.

As it happened the small village we went to was quiet picturesque, so
decided to take w few frames, alas I had forgotten olympus fodder (film)...
I was directed (via various backstreets to an old fashioned photographers
emporium.

I disovered the owner was a former school pal from 195?... In his shop (dark
and very old fashioned), there where cameras and accessories from the 50's
let alone the 70's. In a rack marked Olympus, there where brand new boxed
items including ERC cases for OM10s, Trays of focusing screens all NIB,
flash cords (many in boxes..dusty yes..but complete)...T32 flashguns, T45 in
box, an early OM1 (not motor drive), boxed, still in its silica gel. Several
Pen F bits in boxes, as for the 2nd hand shelf, that was groaning. The shop
used to be an Oly agent.

Other stuff included 5 x 4 view cameras, (Linhof, Micropress etc), a couple
of rollieflexes, and tons of outdated chemicals, papers, films, etc, even
wooden tripods..

He has inherited the shop from an aunt in her 90's, whos husband (the
proprietor), has just died.

Modern stock was confined to a few point-and-shoot compacts, and film
stocks. The business had been surviving on DPP, School photographs, a little
portraiture, and counter sales.. (The Photo studio still has photoflood
lighting as well as studio flash).

The intention is to clearout, after doing an inventory check..

In return for the OM1, I'm going to take a few days annual leave to help
with that project..

He was minded just to have an auction to clear it all, I am going to
persuade him to invest a little time and market the stock via the internet,
probably via QXL.com (They have antiques valuation specialists)..Its the
time element though, I would prefer to test any item sold, but the old lady
needs to be in sheltered accomodation, not still living over the shop with 3
flights of stairs..

Anyway, I will take next week out and help where I can.

BTW had ructions from the partner, when I arrived back to collect her, I
looked like an escapee from a coal hole with a broad grin..Oh and never did
take any pictures....Hmm wrong priorities again.

With that in mind, can I pick a UK brain or two?...The old chemicals, some
of which are from the 40's and 50's.. Will we need specialist disposal?...
many are in brown glass 1 gallon demijohns.

regards

David
