Regarding brassing and wearing of black painted surfaces, even by nylon or
canvas straps: I wonder whether the dipping rubber-like stuff available at
hardware stores might help? I have some in the barn I've never used. Comes
in liquid form, intended for dipping tool handles and suchlike for better
grip, rustproofing, etc. Since it's flexible it might work on straps
without cracking.
