The cds cells are not adding to the exposure.  As good as otf exposure is,
in this case,  when you're trying to do a "no light" test, the light
entering through the eyepiece is so drastic compared to light near the film,
that light leakes around the mirror and affects exposure.
If you're shooting at night outside, it would be the same effect as starting
a long time exposure and pointing a lit flashlight into the eyepiece.
