Dirk,

If you're interested in Canon, you might consider the FTb. It is an
excellent, all manual, camera that is compatible with the FD lenses. It has
the same match needle exposure meter as the original F1. It also has mirror
lock-up and and really nice quick-load feature that makes loading film a
breeze. This might be a real plus for a 12 year old. I bought mine 30 years
ago because I couldn't afford an F1. I recently switched to Olympus for the
TTL flash capabilities that the older Canons didn't have. I think the FTb
might be an excellent choice for your daughter.

Regards,
Gwynne Little

Well, it appears that my 12yr old daughter is interested in
photography. I bought her Kodak's "Joy of Photography", which she
likes. She's going to practice on her mom's Canon AE-1 Program. I
offered to buy her her own camera someday. I'd like to get her an OM-1,
but being able to share stuff with her mom may be important also. I
looked at the Canon A series and I don't like any of them really. The
AE-1 would be ok, but I don't like older, maybe unrepairable,
electronic cameras. I don't see a mechanical Canon camera compatible
with the FD lenses, so I'm a little stuck I guess. I think once she
uses on OM camera that she may prefer one, but she lives way too far
away for me to share it with her. Whatever I get her, I want her to
like it so that she uses it and I don't waste money on something that
sits on a shelf. I also considered Nikon, but they are all too
expensive or too old. I don't like the FM10 either. I'm going to wait
and see what she says about it later. I think she's coming up to visit
in May, so I'll let her use my OM-1. If she prefers it, then I'll get
that for her.

Be seeing you.
