Rikard,

"Flying strings" on the OM-2SP are caused by incorrect
adjustment and can be fixed. If it does occur, it is usually
noticeable at shutter speeds of around 1/30 sec.

You mention having used alkaline batteries on the OM-2N without
any problems. As you are probably aware, silver oxides are
recommended as the preferred batteries for all OM cameras, from
the OM-2 upwards. This is because the ageing characteristics of
silver oxide and alkaline batteries are different: silver oxides
maintain a fairly constant voltage during their lifetime,
whereas the voltage of alkalines declines as the battery wears
out. Thus, silver oxides provide more consistently accurate
exposures over time than alkalines, altough this my be less
apparent with print film than with slide film.

The OM-2SP causes relatively high current drain on its batteries
compared to the OM-2N. This cannot be remedied, although
conversion from green to red LED flash indicator helps if you
use flash a lot, because the red LED uses the flash unit's
batteries instead of the camera's batteries. In the OM-2SP, the
difference between silver oxide and alkaline battery performance
is much more apparent than with the OM-2N: you should find that
silver oxide batteries last significantly longer and give more
consistently accurate exposures than alkalines.

Hope this helps, regards,

Ray
