[OM] Batteries for OM1 etc

Subject: [OM] Batteries for OM1 etc

There has been some chat about this recently, but I think I missed the
beginning so apologies if I am treading old ground....

The OM1 family (and others including 35RC) are designed to use PX625 mercury
batteries at 1.35 volts. Finding these now can be a bit like hoping to
fertilise your rhubarb with a rocking horse, although supplies do turn up
occasionally.

I popped into the local Jessops (large UK chain photo retailer who generally
know what they are talking about) where they have a used OM1MD and OM1N for
sale, and asked what batteries they would put in. They have some "zinc-air"
batteries which I hadn't seen before which claim to deliver 1.35 volts.

Question is - what is the score with these zinc-air batteries? I have half a
memory that somebody very recently said something like avoid them like the
plague, but I recently hoovered out the inbox and can't find it.

TIA
John
