Just checked my 35SPN manual (it's a rough photocopy), this is what it says:
"The automatic combination of the shutter speed and F/stop ranges from 1/15
sec. F1.7 to 1/250 sec. F22 in a serial bold line, according to the
brightness of the subject.".
The "serial bold line" refers to a graph of aperture & shutter speed vs EV,
which shows a straight line between the extremeties noted above.
