I don't know the Tamron but I recently bought on impulse a Hanimex 'Hi-Tec'
28 - 205mm zoom, which has a 1:4 macro setting at the 205 end - but at any
other focal length its closest focus is just below ten feet! Its performance
is very much better than I was expecting and it's a real novelty to have
such a wide zoom range, but this close focus limit at the wide end seriously
reduces its versatility.
