Shawn,

I'm not trying to get into a OT technical discussion on the difference
of Win NT & 95/98 in reference to twain. But I think you may leave
readers with a very incorrect conclusion and that is ... that just
because a driver works on Win 3.x/9.x or any other version does not mean
it will work on NT. A device driver is an independent software
application. It must be written in a way not to conflict with any other
part of the OS or user application space ect (as Joseph alluded to). So
if the manufacturer of the driver has not got it to work on NT or any
with other OS or application, then I doubt if the end user should be
left with the thought that it can be done. And it is this software
application referred to as a driver that controls the scanner. It is
not TWAIN. TWAIN is a port ...nothing more. Nor is it SCSI. SCSI is
simply a device interface which finds the port. But the bottom line here
is simple .... only purchase scanners or hardware devices that have been
tested by the manufacturer on your OS or platform. Then you don't have
to be a techie to get things to work. In other words buy what you know
has been proven to work on your system (period).

As to Olympus digital cameras ... well ... come one ... that is a no
brainier. A digital camera is a not a computer peripheral in the common
sense. The digital camera is designed to operate and output completely
independent of the hardware platform or OS. If it does not, then it
should not even be considered even if it is free. All major digital
camera manufacturers realize this. And of course Olympus is a leader
here not like it's scanner operation. A word to the wise when buying
one of these devices. Buy a card reader which attaches to either the
USB, Firewire, or serial port directly to your computer. Most card
readers can read both types of memory cards ... Flash ... and Smart
Media. These devices are normally less than $100 and will save you much
time and effort. If you plan to buy an expensive digital camera they
are almost a must have. Obviously these card readers will read files
from any digital camera that uses these memory cards (which are almost
all). I hope that helps.
