I was looking at the circuit diagrams sometime ago from the patents.
The OM-4 does a battery check before it will allow the shutter to
release. This is done at a higher current drain. Poor battery internal
resistance can cause the battery check to fail. I also suspect that
since the discharge curve for silver oxide is fairly flat, that any
errors in the bandgap circuit during the battery check can translate
into more or less usage of the battery. I wouldn't be supprised if
batteries that were failing in an OM-4 might still have some life in
them if put in an OM-4t. The OM-4t has less current drain during
exposure, and hence less internal battery voltage drop. Some OM-4's may
be considered battery hogs compared to other OM-4's when the difference
maybe the battery check circuit voltage is set slightly higher. I don't
know enough to tell if this is adjustable. I suspect it is all internal
to the IC's in the camera.

Battery drain is relatively low for a camera just sitting there,
inactive.
