Hmm, time to get the thinking cap & soldering iron out.  Anyone know
what the ideal voltage is for an OM2S(P)? or is there some internal
regulation so that the gradual decrease in battery voltage over their
useful life doesn't affect metering?  If so, then all that's needed is
to take a 3v tap from 2 of the 4 AAs in the winder & feed it directly to
the camera body, surely?  Otherwise, I'll have to come up with a
v.compact regulator that fits into the battery compartment probe,
thereby removing the need to change the mechanical arrangements of the
winder.
