Paul:

In a cup, mix up some hot water and as much baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, or
bicarbonate of soda) as will dissolve in the mix. Now take a Q-tip or similar
object, dip it into the liquid, and apply it sparingly to the goop surrounding
your contacts. Don't overwet (or if you do, remember you'll probably have to
wait a couple of days for any liquid which seeps inside the unit to dry out).
Keep doing this until the liquid no longer reacts with the goop. Now it's
probably been neutralized, more or less.

Now use another Q-tip, and some isopropyl alcohol (99trength) to clean away the
compound that's been formed. The alcohol will also aid in the evaporation of
any water surrounding your contacts.

Finally, use dry Q-tips to mop up the last of the mess.

Good luck.

Garth
