First of all, the spring contacts are not pot metal, they will probably be a
steel alloy with a low tarnish plating, they usually are high in nickel.

As previously mentioned you would probably not be able to get the solder to
bond to what is left of the plating.

Secondly, solder makes a poor battery connection, after some time and
movement, the electrical connections will develop a high resistance to such
a low voltage that the flash unit requires.

If you look at most flashlight bulbs you will see a lead bottom to the bulb
which makes contact with the positive end of the battery. On flashlights
that make the bulb actually touch the battery for contact, you will in time
experience trouble with this flashlight staying on, or remaining at full
brightness, and then begin beating on the flashlight to work again. That is
because of this lead contact on the bulb.

The kind of solder that you would use to retin the contacts would most
likely be 60/40, which is 60 0.000000e+00ad. Retinning would make the unit work
good
for a while, but the best solution to your problem would be to clean the
contacts the best you can. Nothing you do, is going to bring these contacts
back to original condition, short of replating them.
