two different types of glass. there are many different kinds actually. you
can identify green glass by looking at it on edge, it will be green in
color. i suppose water glass is clear with the same test? green glass is
what you'll typically find at the hardware store, but doesn't mean that
tiffen necessarily uses hardware store glass. i don't know enough about
this and how significant all of this stuff is to make any more detailed
comments. this may be just gilding the lilly (ie, making improvements that
are of no consequence for you non-native english speakers), and/or the
filter manufacturers are relying on photographer's lack if knowledge of the
subject to sell them. 

adding a filter is just like adding another element to your lens, so i
assume that it is important to pay attention to these crazy details about
filters?
