Hello.

I'll send this to the list, as there may be people interested in the Swedish photo-culture.

I have used Olympus Om for the passed 10 years. I started off with a OM-1 and four years ago I bought a 4Ti, a nice camera. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 2SP to a very very good price.

In Sweden there is quite a lot of Olympus-equipment. Canon, Nikon, Minolta and Pentax are the most common once though. Olympus is considered an amature-brand, with not as high quality in the lenses as the mentioned brands. There is no real demand for Olympus-things, but despite this, there are very high prices for used equipment in retailers.

If you saw a lot of Oly cameras in Sweden, I'd be very surprised. Sweden is kind of a high tech country. No manual focus is ever discussed when buying a new camera. Seeing a lot of Oly may be because of a lot of amatures keep their Oly cameras. There are no demand for used equipment. Still there are very high prices on used equiment. (May be a connection there... :-) ).

I can also see another reason for a lot of OM:s. The Swedes are an intelligent people, that appriciate quality in the stuff they use.

Why I like Olympus?
I have never used any other equipment for a longer period. So it is not for te light weight. It's a combination of different things: 1. Reliability. I can bring my 4Ti out in the rain, taking shots, and still knowing that the images will end up as I want them. I can bring my equipment to a dusty motorevent and still knowing that the winder will make that good ol' sound as I press the button. 2. Manual control. There aren't a lot of often meaningless functions and buttons on it. With a simple turn I get total control.
3. I can use Oly that was made a quater of a century ago.

Well. That's a few thoughts from Sweden. Hope I could spred some light.

Kind regards

Hi to our swedish section,

during this summer I spent my holidays in sweden near the Siljan - Lake.
What I was very astonished about was that I saw many people using good old
oly stuff OM-1, OM-2, OM77 and so on. When running around here in Germany I
sometimes feel like beeing overaged with my oly-stuff (I assume most people
like plastics;-). Are the swedish people not as trendy as the people here
in germany or do they just like to stay with good things?

Wolfgang

PS.: Is far as I remember we have someone from Kolmarden - which I visited
a couple of years ago - here on the list. I would like to answer him
offlist.
