They work by decreasing the focal length of the lens, while the 
distance of the lens from the focal plane remains the same.

Because they're usually a single lens, they're not colour corrected, 
leading to unsharpness and colour fringing.

The stronger the close-up lens you use, the softer the image. Use small 
apertures - this improves the sharpness.

Some close-up lenses are compound lenses which have better corrections. 
And are more pricey.

Use until you get your 90mm f/2 macro.
