Given that you won't be using TTL flash with an OM-1 (and therefore
won't need the hideously expensive TTL auto-cord), put the flash on a
bracket that moves it away from the lens. Since the T20 has no PC
socket, I use a cold-shoe to hot-shoe adaptor, with it's own 20cm lead
and PC plug.

My sunpak flash (way old 33D) has an inbuilt PC cord which is just
long enough to reach the OM1's PC socket from my bracket.

I've had good (redeye-free) portrait results with OM-1, bracket and
T20 (or any other flash for that matter).
