Okay, George -- I'll give it a shot.

By definition, when something is balanced, it is MOST susceptable to
outside forces.

Let's say you take a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. Put a jack under each side at
the exact balance point and jack it up so that it is balanced on the two
jacks. (I didn't say this was going to be easy... :-)

Now climb in the back seat. That is the effect of the shutter firing.

Now repeat the experiment, but this time, jack it up at the proper jack
locations: just in back of the front wheels. Now when you climb in the back
seat, there is hardly any effect at all.
