  That depends. As any schoolgirl knows, one of the great advantages
of a little flare is to pre-fog the film, thus INCREASING shadow details,
not obliterating them. This is something clearly observable in many
backlit images from the old SC days. What you lose is real black blacks.

  Fog can be your friend...how do you think guys like Robert Frank
managed shooting ISO 125 (SuperXX) films in available darkness ?

   Now that it has been established beyond any doubt which Zuikos
are the "good", the "bad", and the "ugly", and the local technophiliacs
are raving about all the f/2.0s, I was hoping that the price of the
ole flarey, unsharp & foggy /2.8's would take an appropriate hefty dive,
and I could pick up a few of the "junker" lenses as spares for a
song...:-) So far, no one's dumping them at prices commensurate
with the test results. Hmmmmm...
