Hi Chip,

For screens FvL's post is what I remember making the most sense: bit of
dishwashing liquid, warm water, and distilled water rinse maybe. Perhaps a
colloidion goo called Opticlean is the ticket for pulling off deep
contaminants (never used it myself; anybody?). Might be time to purchase
a new screen if somebody has already used a cleaning method on your
screens. ;-)

On mirrors, I personally wouldn't do anything myself other than a benign
poke with the tip of a camera hair brush. I don't even blow air inside my
cameras. Somebody once suggested building up static electricity in a
plastic prong of some kind and waving this around the mirror to attract the
dust bunnies. Never tried it but might. I herewith quote Dr. John from
about one year ago on this topic and a more agressive cleaning method:

"Lens tissue wrapped around a narrow flat object, dipped in denatured alcohol
works for me. Don't press too hard on the mirror as the silver can come right
off if you trap a piece of grit in there. If there is old mirror foam in the
corners, that'll smear around alot and you'll have to clean it 10 to 20 times
to get it all off.

John
Camtech"

My recollection is that several list members were appalled at this method
of cleaning the mirror. I've had several cameras through John's shop and
the mirrors all have come back looking good.

Good luck and let us all know how it goes if you try stuff.

Joel
