I agree that when being in a hurry the mounting of the converter can
be a problem. The threads are very fine, and all the time you must
think that you must not damaging them. All filters must be removed
first as well. The B-300 converter can only be used with the zoom at
the extreme 180 end, i.e. no zooming has to be done with converter
attached. The weight of the converter is 260 g which is about one
fourth of the weight of the whole camera. I haven't noticed any slower
response in the AF system with converter attached, so maybe this is
not a big problem.

Actually there is no big problem with handheld shooting even with this
converter. With the grip strap tightended to secure the camera to your
right hand I just place the barrel of the camera in my left palm and
let my wrist take up the weight. There is no substantial loss of lens
speed with these converters, so it is possible to use almost the same
shutter speeds as without converter. I must admit though that the look
of an IS-3(000) with extended zoom lens and attached tele converter is
somewhat "bazooka-like"! I imagine some people might wonder if they
should call the police or not...

Sorry, but I haven't used this combo on a tripod so I cannot tell.
Agree that this could be a problem.
