Thanks for the info, Dave.

I have had bad encounters with two so-called quality labs.  The first was a
local business in Shrewsbury which had a reasonable turnover of both amateur
and professional material.  When they came back the negatives looked like
someone had literally dropped them on the floor and trampled them.  The
attitude of the lab manager was "accidents happen, tough luck".

Lab 35 is a well-known national colour lab which advertised heavily in the
UK photo press.  The colour balance & density of the prints they produced
were terrible, I was ashamed to show them to the family.  Worst of all, they
had scratched one negative.  When I sent it back they retouched the print
poorly, and refused to go beyond offering me a £5 credit for future
processing.  Despite my (polite) insistence on a digitally retouched
negative or print, they refused.

Neither company is worth the time of day, in my book - for their attitude,
if nothing else.
