I have owned Olympus OM cameras for about 18 years since I bought my first
OM2N. For the next 15 years I managed with two bodies and three lenses.

I now have a "substantial" amount of Olympus equipment and have bought over
900f it in the last three years - some of it bought new, much of it used
(in fact quite a lot of it from OLY list members). I made a conscious
decision then to commit my 35mm photography to Olympus. Why? Many, many
reasons - here are just a few:

- the high quality of the majority of Zuiko lenses
- the compactness of the bodies and lenses
- the superb range of Zuiko macro lenses (I don't think anyone competes in
this field)
- the superb range of Zuiko macro accessories (an enormous range, some of
which is unique)
- the fact that I can use the same motor drive, macro flash units, macro
equipment such as the telescopic tube and macro stands, and screens (well
okay, most of them) on all of my bodies (not, I believe, the case with
others)

My main interests are in macro photography and in landscapes and so I don't
have a great desire or need for autofocus - if I did I would have chosen a
different system.

Now, what has Olympus given me? An enormous fully compatible system of
hundreds of components, most of which I can still buy new and all of which
I can find used (with difficulty sometimes). As far as I am aware most of
it can be repaired and that will be the case for a lot of years. As far as
I can see the lenses and macro equipment are fairly indestructible if I
look after them and if the worst happens and a body cannot be repaired
there will always be people selling them.

What do I want Olympus to do? Well they could add a few little features
which have been discussed many times but surely the OM4Ti and OM3Ti are as
close to perfection of the manual focus camera as we are likely to get -
and I would not want an "improved" OM(3 or 4)Ti if all that compatibility
with the system were lost.

What I would like in the (near?) future is a digital photographic quality
Olympus camera fully compatible with the majority of OM system. I don't
know if I will get it but I am more confident in Olympus doing this than
any other manufacturer.

I think Olympus has stood by its users more than any other system
manufacturer - I don't feel they really owe me anything. I made an educated
and researched choice and I have never doubted it.

Pause while I step off my soapbox ............

BTW, I have been missing for a week or so and came to this thread late - I
am now (eventually, 15 days late!) the proud father of my second, a sister
for my son. No on-list congratulations expected please!
