Yup. And the degree of that loss is probably limited to some number of
generations. It may even vary by the encoder used (eg, not just the fact
you're rounding and filtering, but how much precision is used in the
process). 

Early ATRAC encoders (used in the Sony MD audio format) suffered
profound generational loss in 4-5 generations. Today, you can go 20 or
more with far less distortion.
