I have seen one, but never been able to buy one...
You are right about the aim of the little thing.
BTW, they were only made for the OM-2.

I made something myself, for the OM-3/4 which takes more current, with
a low-drop voltage regulator. 
Output is exactly 3.0 volt, input voltage is anything between 4 and 12
volt. A few penlights (AA batteries) will last for ages....
