Thanks to help from John, Frank and Charlie I have managed to convert a
M15V NiCd Charger from 100 to 240V.

Most chargers of this type that I have seen are labeled AC100/115/220/240V,
50/60Hz and are switchable using a small screw in one of 4 holes. I
obtained one which was absolutely identical in design except that the label
said AC100V, 50/60Hz. The 4 holes were hidden under a label but were there
but there was nothing for a screw to bite into.

I removed the cover (carefully, using lighter fuel as suggested so that it
can be replaced) and the transformer inside is identical, except that the
plate for the screw to bite into has been removed and the wires snipped
back. A little bit of soldering and a 240V charger is obtained - this now
produces about 27V DC, the same as my other chargers.

I can only presume that the design of the charger was changed at some stage
in the US - for safety reasons?

Safety warning - do be careful with mains voltages - don't work on the unit
whilst it is plugged in!

David
