Welcome to this list.  I'm sure that if you stick around you will learn more
useful and correct information than you can get from just about anywhere.

I've been shooting since 1970.  Got into Oly OM in '76 due to having my Canon
rangefinder system stolen.  As a field biologist (waving to Hank) I've taken
my equipment deeper into the wilds than most would venture with weightier
systems.  (Like hiking through super saturated muck as deep as your behind, or
in unstable bogs).  OM's lightness is perfect for the field, for small
airplane aerial work, and for carrying the most lenses and accessories without
needing a Sherpa.

It is hard to label a photographer as professional vs. amateur.  By what
measure?  Suffice to say I've done scientific photography professionally.
There, the payoff is successfully communicating your research findings and
your feelings about nature, rather than counting cash in the pocket.
