Hello Zuiks,

Olympus has published in the Olympus Magazin 2/85 and 4/85 folowing
interresting informations:

Best batteries for the OM camera:

Camera: OM10    OM20    OM-2n   OM-3    OM-4    OM-2SP

Battery:

Alkali-
mangan   +       +       0       0       0       0
LR44

Lithium  +       +       0       0       -       -
2L76

Silver-
oxid     ++      ++      ++      ++      ++      ++
SR44

++ = best suitability

+ = suitable

0 = in emergency, change if posible

- = not suitable

There was an explaination why alkal mangan cells, LR44, are
uneconomical:

Volts

1.6 *
    +***************
1.5 +               ***
     +                 *
1.4   +                *
-------+---------------*----- Lock up voltage
1.3     ++             *
          ++            *
1.2         ++++        *
                ++++    *
1.1                 ++  *
                      ++*
1.0                     +

Time----------------------->

*** = Silveroxid discharging curve

+++ = Alkalimangan discharging curve

The mirror of an OM-4 will lock up at an voltage of 2.65V
(2.65V/2=1.32V).

If cold was the reason for the voltage drop, the mirror will be unlocked
after the battery has recovered and the voltage has risen to 2.9V =
1.45V per cell.

As you can see, due to the unfavorable discharging curve, the OM-4 will
only use a part of the capacity of the alkalimangan cells. Silveroxid
cells will be more economical, because most of the capacty could be used
by the OM-4.
