I've done fireworks on Auto, B and Manual. I believe Auto and B are
best suited when the camera is tripod mounted and you want to catch
multiple arrows. You just have to be lucky, like when trying to take
shots of lightning. On B, I held a piece of cardboard for the lens in
between the arrows. This gave me better results than Auto.
I found Manual better for normal, handheld exposures (catching
individual arrows), because I wanted to make sure the shutter speed
stayed at 1/60. Used the 55/F1.2 for that, and a fast film (Fuji HG
800), with good results. Spotmetered on a few arrows to determine
aperture, and retained that setting for the rest of the shots.
