Tripod head interference seems to be a way of life. The Bogen hex plate is a
solid and inexpensive quick release. Both Bogen and Kirk Enterprises sell
quite a few different plates for special purposes. With the countersunk
screw version, you should be able to move the screw by cutting a new
countersunk hole in the plate. I used a Nikon F back in the 60s, and I
constantly had problems with the tripod head. Perhaps you are looking fo an
excuse to get a new tripod!
