Howdy:
I am new to the list (a digest lurker), and I'm just getting back
into photography. I am glad to have found such a good source of
information and interested people. I've dusted off my OM-4, Zuiko 35-70
f4, obligitory Zuiko 50mm f1.8, Vivitar 28mm f2, and Tamron 80-210.
I am not terribly happy with the Vivitar and Tamron Lenses and the
jury is still out on the 35-70 ( I've only shot a few rolls with this
lense). I'm sure your wondering, what's he getin' at.....
I'm not sure where I am going in photography... so, I want to build a
good solid system to explore directions. I want to feel more sure that if
a shot is flat and not interesting, its because of me, not my equipment. I
am looking for qualitative advice. Are there some zuiko lenses that are
particularly good values? Are there some particularly good third party
lenses out there. Is there a lense that is everyone's favorite. I want
something in the super-wide ~20mm +/- 4mm range, a normal, possibly with
macro, and a short tele, in the +/-100mm range (w/ macro?). And some day
maybe ~35mm and something longer ~200mm. I am interested in light weight
and small size, but will sacrifice size & weight for a big difference in
quality. Of course, cost is important as well.
I've been shopping the local camera stores, and web for used stuff,
but I am just don't want to wind up with the one dog in the Zuiko line up
(maybe that doesn't exist).
Here are some of the things I've been considering: Zuiko 21 f3.5, 24
f2 or f2.8 (or maybe not so wide w/ the 28 f2/2.8), 50 f3.5macro, 100 f2
or 100 f2.8, or 135 f3.5, Sigma macro 90 f2.8. I've not seen most of these
lenses so I'm not sure of relative size (or, cost).

I know this is sort of a tall order, and bound to stir up some debate, but
it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance, Robert
