The colour was more cool than the Zuiko, particularly noticable on flash (which
is a cool colour source anyway). I didn't say a blue cast, as it was more a
cool cast if you can understand my foggy vision! I use this lens more than all
my other lenses. It is my standard lens.

If I could afford the Zuiko 90mm and extra filters I would buy it. I got this
fairly cheap (the body is heavy brass, and is bruised, but the optics are still
as good as the day it left the factory) and this is why I haven't gone to the
Zuiko.

If it sucked, or packed it in, I would buy one probably from the US. KEH sell
them for ~$650 US. With our dismal dollar now, this is $1,000 AUS on a good
day. (Thanks Asia, just when we were getting it back up). I was quoted $1200 or
$1500 (I can't remember) duty free for a 90mm.

This 1:1 figure, or even 1:2 for that matter, is mythical. If I wind the lens
out and add 45mm of extension, I get 1:1. And lose 2 stops (effective aperture
= lens aperture *[Mag+1]). I think the Tamron f2.8 is IF, and gives true
aperture at any focus.

But I'm not shooting at open ap anyway. I'm at f16 or f22 for DOF. And I'm on a
tripod. A couple of stops is rarely relevant.

So, if the object is small, and you need 1.2:1 you need extension anyway. These
cutoffs in macro range are just an engineering factor, life rarely fits into
these values.

Back to the topic, I'll try to dig out the comparison slides and get back to
you.
