I've used that app for remote operation/release. Solid, reliable - and really clunky. Getting it synced up with the phone is a pain. Ans, as I recall, has to be redone every time the camera is turned on (and when it has timed out to off?)

I use the GPXTracker app on my phone. It doesn't seem to wear down the battery any more than just having the phone on. GPS in the phone is likely always on. With the Ois app, I imagine the constant WiFi and BT connections would indeed use up power.

I start it before the first shots of the day and stop it when I think about it. I used to worry about being prompt, but it makes no difference. I'm thinking about just starting it in the morning when I get up while traveling and doing a stop/save/reset at night. The files are tiny.

I use the app to email .gpx files to my email, then save from there to the computer, to a location where I've told LR to find them. With portable, I geotag on the road, but could wait 'til home. The only times I've screwed up were forgetting to start it. On our 66 day fall trip I did manage that a couple of times.

I use LightRoom as my catalog and it does geotagging very quickly. It just has one little quirk; it uses the time on the computer, rather than the time in the photo EXIF, so when geotagging back home, a time offset is needed, easily done, once learned. I used to use Geosetter, but it's actual tagging process is painfully slow, and I think it's not being supported any more. LR is QUICK.

After a couple of days, the whole process is transparent.

I don't know what other geotagging options are out there but I wouldn't use
OiShare.

Downside is that using the GPS is a draw on the battery. I usually
track when we go on walks but not usually in the car. Any other ideas?
I know that this has been discussed in the past but things have changed
