Happy Holidays from "Into the Wild"

It's been uncomfortably cold this entire month of December. I'm
looking forward to 2-3 trips to escape. In a week or two, going to KC
to visit one daughter, then Melbourne, Australia to visit the other.
And then in March, possibly going to Hawaii to look at properties on
the Big Island. The Australia trip will include the better part of a
week in Tasmania. I am debating about going up to the Whitsunday
Islands. I got to experience the insanity of Sydney last time, so
never leaving the airport grounds is fine with me.

I'm mostly full-frame Sony these days, but the Oly gear gets used very
extensively for video projects. There is a part of me that says to
take the Olympus on this trip, but probably nah. However, I will leave
the 200-600 home. I'm pretty thrilled with the 20-70/4, and
70-200/4(mk2) lenses. (that 70-200/4 is the most comfortable telezoom
I've ever used). I did get a drone this year - now THAT's way too much
fun.

With the divorce, and a wild combination of at least two or three
simultaneous mid-life crisis, I sorta dropped out of sight from the
photography lists. I decided to go nuts in the music industry and have
fully embraced the concept of "anything worth doing is worth
overdoing". I'm one of the headliner DJ acts for a show this week. At
this point, I've just about accomplished every "realistic" goal as a
DJ and music producer. I was working on going national in 2026. Still
might. But I learned that it was easier to get booked in "select"
clubs if you also own a club. (I'm very very done with the bar scene).
So, it's about time to seek out a new mid-life crisis challenge to
keep me busy. I did end up investing in a club, so I have gotten
really good at repairing toilets. (eyerolls - it's a glamorous
business). Honestly, I'm not sure how toilet repairs translates to
performing EDM, but it is nice to be home and in bed before 3AM. I did
have to recalibrate my life as I had exceeded all levels of common
sense on overdoing it. 70+ hour work-weeks for three years???

Alaska adventures continued. While I can live with slightly shorter
winters, there is no shortage of special moments here. I did the
Denali Highway loop twice this year, did several trips down to the
Kenai Peninsula, went over to Valdez, and got into Denali National
Park three times. I subscribed to a certain satellite Internet
service, so I can be "connected" no matter where I'm at in the state.
Freedom! I can work and be remote. Yay. I do have a couple of work
trips planned which will take me to places I've only seen through
National Geographic. (Rule #1 for living in Alaska - When you have an
opportunity to go ANYWHERE in the state, and someone else is paying
for the trip, the answer is ALWAYS "Yes!!!!"). One of the locations is
only served by a Cessna 206, and the "Uber" is a 4-wheeler.

This could be my final full year in Alaska. The problem I have is that
my lease is up at the end of July. The middle of summer is NEVER the
time to try to get someone to move out of Alaska. February 1st? Yeah,
duh, bye-ya. We'll see if Hawaii pans out. I could be easily convinced
to move to Australia. No "relationship entanglements" to complicate
matters.

Anyway, greetings from the wild north.
