Cool to know! I don't ever expect to be in a situation where that could happen.

But this could be a big deal to MikeG, who does on occasion stalk Snowy Owls — and has remarked on what appeared to him to be atmospheric disturbance softening.

I always use my lens hood. Usually we think of atmospheric distortion due to 
heat rising being the main culprit.
