I don't know know many were in the US, I DO know that up until (I think)
early 2000s Olympus only saw (1) 1000 for service, with a 2nd element
slightly chipped on one edge. They had no parts EVER, so even though they
charged the customer for impact, they gave him a new lens. I bought the
lens from Oly as part of their VIP product buyout which included (2) 350
2.8, (2) 250 f2 and (2) 180 f2.
