Indeed, my main bank here in Spain requires the use of the app on the phone (or
iPad) to authenticate a transaction, not a text message. When I log into my
AMEX account, I get a choice between a text message or an e-mail to the address
they have on file. Most of my other services also require the use of an app to
authenticate.
