They did that, with their set of range-specific macro lenses.

Oh yes! They, bellows and macro stand are wonderfully good gear. With LED lighting and a FF mirrorless camera, they are really easy to use well, too.

You coarse-focus with the bellows (or TET), and then fine-tune with the lens 
helicoid.

Not true of the original 20, 38 and 80 mm bellows lenses. A great convenience 
of the later, Auto models.
