On a positive note, except for last year, nobody ever needs to use an
air-conditioner here.
The petroleum industry in Alaska is largely 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.
The majority of the workers live outside of Alaska. Hawaii and Mexico
are very common places to live.
It's the variety of the seasons that really makes living in Alaska
something special. Summer is all about camping, fishing, bears, and
bugs. And 4-wheelers! 4-wheelers are religion. The intensity of summer
in Alaska is actually a bit overwhelming. Nobody really sleeps. Once
fall comes, most people are quite ready to catch up on sleep. I think
it's a mental disturbance, but people cheer when it starts to snow.
