I enjoy the nattering.....keep it coming.

The Kiron 105/2.8 and Tamron 90/2.5 are excellent, but not quite as good for
flat copy work at high mags.

The Kiron focuses directly to 1:1, without fussing with tubes or extenders. The longer working distance and excellent results made it a favorite in the field.

The 90/2.5, used with matching 2x telextender makes a 180/5 macro lens that focuses close. Excellent with the long working distance for small critters like bees. A couple of examples here. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/tech/Lenses/Tam902.5/>

When I was doing a lot of copy work on a stand, I used the 50/3.5 for larger items and 90/2.5 for smaller, to stay within the height limit of the copy stand. Both did a wonderful job.

Oly really did an excellent job with their short mount (bellows) macro lenses. 135/4.5, 80/4 Auto, 38/2.8 and 20/2.0 are still outstanding lenses. As Jan pointed out, the 135/4.5 on Telescoping Auto Tube is a hand holdable macro. I've used it that way, too.
