There are a lot of things that happen in Alaska. But tusk hunting,
like in Russia, isn't one of them. While the state is huge, the
population is not and everything requires logistics. People talk. When
anything is found, the finder is outed pretty quickly. Also, keep in
mind that the permafrost melting in North America is quite a bit
different than in Asia.

Alaska is actually VERY socialist as compared to any other state. The
concept of land ownership is quite different. Everything that comes
out of the ground essentially belongs to the state, and the profits of
it are distributed to the residents. So, when somebody digs into the
ground looking for something, we all have a stake in making sure it's
legit. I've oversimplified this a lot, but that's one of those things
that makes Alaska different. Living here in the most populated area of
the state is misleading as we have everything you have in the
lower-48, but the moment you leave the city, you realize you aren't in
Kansas any longer.
