The code goes like this:

2 letter code for factory (in the early 80s Olympus had 26 different
factory codes, though techs in the know at Woodbury NY said some of those
"factories" were small, more like "subcontractors").

TN may have been Oly's main OM factory = Tatsuno

Factory code is followed by a letter (represents year) and then a number
1-9 (month) OR x, y, or z. (X for Oct, Y for Nov, Z for December).

After factory code, an "A" would indicate 1981, "B" 1982, "C" 1983, "D"
1984 etc.

Number: 1 = January, 2 = February, 3 = March etc.

TND5 Tatsuno factory, 1984, May.

TNFY Tatsuno factory, 1986, November

"S" factory code is "old" code for "New" factory code NA, old code for TN
was "E".

In 1981, these factory codes were in use: TN, 1N, HJ, NA, S1, AZ, SA, FA,
NI, SK, IK, SY, MR, KW, SU, NN, SZ, NM, NK, TS, HW, SE, TH, CN, SR, SN.
