I tried a focus stack in Affinity today and compared it to PS. Here's the finished PS stack. <http://zone-10.com/tope2/main.php?g2_itemId=22610>

The Affinity result had fewer failures along edges, ghosting, etc. OTOH, the closest petal was quite soft and overall, detail was lacking compared to the individual slices and the PS version.

As the errors in PS are relatively easy to fix, while overall lack of detail
isn't, I went no further with Affinity.

MikeG mentioned the Panini Projection and linked to a page about it, which said it was in Hugin. I had some panoramas tat just didn't look right, esp. one in the Paro Valley of Bhutan.

So, I downloaded Hugin, futzed around until I could do what I wanted, and am pleased with the result. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/tech/Panorama/_B009385-392_comp.htm>

The PS stitch is "Cylindrical". The Affinity says "Get perfect panoramas every time with Affinity Photo’s advanced stitching algorithm, automatic image alignment and full perspective corrections."

A PS "Perspective" stitch makes the far mountains tower over the close hill.
