You need to get pretty creative with the merge.

Much as I love Panos, and they had largely displaced the 9-18 for many things, 
they don't work for everything

One thing that helps a lot is that I do a HUGE overlap. I only move
the camera a third of the frame over so there is always three frames
covering the same spot. Using the focus spots as a guide, I place the
left square where the right square was.

Good luck with the stitching, or enjoy the hand work on subjects like MikeL's 
windy beach.

The other problem with wide panos is that they can "look funny". I just spent too much time working with Hugin on a pano that has been bugging me. And I did get a better version with the Panini Correction MikeG mentioned.

I find the interface not very intuitive. For a regular stitch, PS is much 
easier to operate.
