Yes, watch the level guides and crop to get rid of excessive foreground/sky...

This gives fair results if shot not too far out of level.

Yeah, I see. I tried a handful of images off the web. Distant landscape, nothing too close, level camera with horizon vertically centered looks good without correction. Deviate only a little, and barrel distortion correction is pretty good, depending on specifics of subject. DxO and PTLens fisheye correction can be useful with further visible distortion.

FWIW the little Samyang was dirt cheap and easily pocketable  but I may keep an eye open for a cheap Laowa. I am going to try the Samyang on a tripod to shoot my cabinet interiors and see if the distortion is manageable.

You might take a look at the general Panini projection in Hugin, that Other Mike mentioned. <http://hugin.sourceforge.net/docs/manual/The_General_Panini_Projection.html> I'm going to try it for a couple of panoramas that came out sorta OK, but somehow off, lately.

The 9-18 just isn't wide enough in tight spots.

Exactly. Yes, it's really wide, esp. by film days standards. And yet, in close quarters, it not as wide as I would like. The Laowa and the 7-14 zoom seem to break through a barrier. Perhaps it's just getting beyond 90º horizontal?
