This German guy <http://pen-and-tell.blogspot.nl/search?q=bln-1> (google
translate posts with bln-1
<https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=nl&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fpen-and-tell.blogspot.nl%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dbln-1>)
has analysed many third party batteries, and found none to be competing in
quality with the original ones.

The Olympus ones have more sophisticated electronics to balance the two
cells which are in a BLN-1, optimizing capacity and longevity. If the third
party battery is 'coded' to work with the Olympus charger, it only means it
has a chip to fake the charger into believing that the battery is actually
quite worn, thus limiting its charge (actually a safety feature, since the
actual used inferior cells would probably be set on fire one day due to the
higher current for which the bln-1 is designed).

On several occasions he found the cells used of a much lower capacity then
printed on the label. Price of the third party ones was not a convincing
indication for quality as well...

The question whether that is worth the price difference is yours to answer.

Good luck!
