| You may be right, just time of the year. For a while there, AG and
ChrisT were posting frequently. Now, AG is on the road, and I never
know what to expect from ChrisT's computers and software collection.
I am using Thunderbird, on Win7. Just to add to the confusion, in the
case of John Hudson's beach photos, my Reply List and whatever reply you
made both showed in my Inbox.
I will just observe and scratch my head.

Hi Moose,
Last week, you asked why I was responding to you individually, rather
than to the list, and I responded that I was using the "Reply"
button, same as always. Then, I began to notice that the traffic on
the list has decreased considerably, with few "party line"
discussions of topics. It set me to wondering, but I have little
knowledge of how mail programs, particularly list programs, are set up.
I get mail from two lists regularly, the LUG, of Leica users, and the
OM List. I note that the LUG format offers me two buttons, "Reply"
and "Reply All". The OM format offers me "Reply" and "Reply List".
I normally just use "Reply". When I do this, the LUG response goes
to the list. When I do this with OM replies, my reply goes to the
sender, as I note seems to be the case for others on the list.
What I am wondering is this: Did someone recently change the OM
format so that replies go to the sender, not the List? Is that the
reason that traffic is very low on the list? What happens if we use
"Reply List" instead of "Reply"?
I would like to know if you have an opinion on this?

I wish I knew. My mail programs offer "Reply and "Reply All" I suspect
that "Reply All" is the same as your "Reply List", i.e. reply to the
list of recipients of the original, except for oneself.
Your last few responses to my posts have been to me alone, so I have
changed the address on my replies to go to the list, rather than just
you.
I kinda think it's not a generic problem, for a couple of reasons.
First, although I don't see my own posts, including replies, on the
list, haven't for ages, I do get replies from others that are to the
list as a whole, not just me. Nathan's replies have always been just
to me. Whether that's intentional or the same thing you are
experiencing, I don't know.
Second, late summer is always slow on the list, as I recall, with long
days and vacations to occupy the employed among us. :-) We would
usually be traveling more than this summer, too. I do think there may
be a long term trend toward fewer active posters, as there is little
to let people know about the list. OTOH, not long ago, I felt
overwhelmed by the number of images being posted. I like to look at
them all, and reply something about many.
I doubt if anything in the list itself has changed. It's an automated
thing, with no one at the helm almost all the time. What email program
or web site are you using? It seems more likely the change is there.
Perhaps a change in a default setting?
Wish I knew more.
