I didn't know that whisky has PGI status but I do know that for a it to be
called Scotch it must be produced here, and must be matured here in cask
for a minimum of five (?) years. Hence the plethora of craft distilleries
setting up to produce Scotch .... gin! No need for maturation, nor even any
need to distill the alcohol, just rectify neutral grain spirit with the
desired botanical additives, and start selling ... while the Scotch is
maturing. Though there have been examples of new-make whisky being sold as,
e.g. "The spirit that dares not say its name" or some such rubbish!

Buy what if 3M were to enter the market? No, Minnesota would most likely be
aquavit?
